How the point is computed
We do not approximate. The Vertex is returned directly by swe_houses_ex alongside the cusps; it depends on your latitude, your local sidereal time at birth and the obliquity of the ecliptic. At the equator the formula degenerates and the Vertex is undefined; at high latitudes it can sit far from the seventh house. The page shows the exact ecliptic longitude and the natal house it falls in.
What "fated" actually means
Not predetermined. The traditional reading of the Vertex is that events on this axis arrive without your planning — through other people, through coincidence, through the side door. You can still say no. State-language: this is where life enters from outside more often than from inside. The texture is recognition, not control.
Aspects worth noting
A natal planet within two degrees of the Vertex carries the encounter quality of that planet — Venus brings the relational arrival, Saturn the structural one, Mars the abrupt one. Aspects from transits or progressions to the Vertex are read tightly, within one degree. Vertex contacts in synastry are a recurring theme in long relationships that began with a strong sense of inevitability.

Why does my Vertex sit in a different house than online calculators show?
Likely the house system. Vertex longitude is universal, but the house it falls in depends on Placidus, Whole Sign, Koch and so on. We use Placidus by default and let you switch. The Vertex itself does not move.
Is the Anti-Vertex meaningful too?
Yes. The Anti-Vertex sits exactly opposite and represents the encounters you initiate, the ones that come from your side of the axis. Read the two together as a single line. A natal planet near either end activates the whole axis.
Should I time decisions by Vertex transits?
Probably not. Vertex transits describe arrivals, not the right moments for chosen action — that question lives in electional astrology and the planetary hours. Use the Vertex to recognise what crossed your path, not to push a decision through.
Is the Vertex used in traditional astrology?
Not really. It entered modern practice through L. Edward Johndro and Charles Jayne in the twentieth century. Hellenistic and medieval texts do not mention it. Treat it as a modern instrument with limited but specific use, not as a classical pillar.
